Dairy Block: Denver’s New Playground

Bringing new life to lower downtown Denver, Dairy Block has made my list of places that I will return to again and again.

about dairy block

Located in LoDo and sandwiched between Blake St. and Wazee, Dairy Block was once home to Windsor Dairy. It is just a small alley way in between 18th and 19th, but there is so much fun to be had in this small area!

Dairy Block is decorated with all kinds of toys and instagramable spots: the perfect playground for adults.

Spin the wheels on the wall to hear a tune, but don’t miss any because they all sing a different song!

There is also a sidewalk with green lights that change color as you walk along them.

The street is covered in fun quotes, milk bottle lights hang above, and street art and milk related pictures decorate the walls… you have to see it for yourself!

Food + Drink

The options for food and drink are just as impressive as the decorations.

Poka Lola Social Club

The Dairy Block is home to Poka Lola Social Club, a really fun bar and hang out. The inside is retro, but the patio comes to life on a warm summer night. Watch people stroll along the Dairy Block while playing a game of corn hole or foosball and sipping on your favorite cocktail.

Denver Milk Market

If you’re exploring during the day, check out Denver Milk Market, a cafeteria of sorts with anything you might be craving, created by chef Frank Bonanno of Colorado. Check out the diner style fried-chicken at Lou’s, grab a steamed bun from Boa Chica Boa, or try any of the other yummy installments they have at Milk Market!

If you aren’t feeling that hungry, they also have ice cream, wine on tap, a brewery, and Moo Bar, which serves up some great Colorado cocktails.

Coming Soon to Dairy Block

There is also going to be a speakeasy-type bar opening soon, called Run For The Roses.

If you aren’t aware of my obsession with speakeasies, check out my list of favorite speakeasies in Denver or read about those that I’ve visited in Chicago, Seattle, and San Francisco.

As you can tell, I am incredibly excited for this addition to Dairy Block.

Run for the Roses, is a term that originates from the horse races at the Kentucky Derby. Windsor Dairy used to have horses on their grounds for deliveries and the bars that recently vacated the Run for the Roses spot, Celtic’s and Delaney’s, were involved in betting on horse and dog races. This is Run for the Roses way of remembering Denver’s past.

Hope you will be visiting Dairy Block soon!

Are you as excited about Dairy Block as I am? Have you been to any of these places?
