Canggu is a great place to stay if you are visiting Bali. It is right where all the action happens. There are so many restaurants in Canggu, it is almost overwhelming. There’s tons of local food, but since Bali attracts so many people from different places, you can get almost any kind of food. When Luke and I spent two months living in Canggu, we tried many of the restaurants in the surrounding area. These are the places that we deemed the best restaurants in Canggu. Everything on this list has been tried by yours truly. From trendy cafes and beach clubs to local warungs, here are my favorite restaurants in Canggu that you should check out.
Best Restaurants in Canggu
During the two months that we spent in Bali, Indonesia these are the restaurants in and around Canggu that we loved. Make sure you check out these restaurants when you visit Canggu!
nüde cafe – Canggu, Berawa
Nüde is my favorite restaurant in Bali and I definitely recommend you check it out if possible. Breakfast at Nüde is my favorite, but they are open for lunch and dinner too. Try the Rosti Stack, which is avocado and bacon sandwiched between two potato pancakes and topped with an egg if you are going for something savory. The peanut butter banana pancakes are my usual go-to for sweet breakfast. They even make their own peanut butter! Nüde also has really good coffee and you can pick some up at the coffee carts that you might see around town.
Joon – Canggu
Joon is a really cute restaurant that is great for families. There is an indoor area that is open air, like many places in Bali, and an outdoor area with tables, a pool, a yard area, and a playground. Many days we saw several little ones running around and having an absolute blast. They also have a rooftop with great views and a pool table, which you might just have to yourself. The food is also very good. My preference here is the breakfast dishes such as eggs benedict or the local dishes like the Mie Goreng or Balinese curry. They also have some delicious lemongrass ginger tea that is refreshing in the heat.

Crate Cafe – Canggu
Crate Cafe is a must-visit when you are in Canggu. It is a large space, mostly covered but completely outdoors. It is a unique format for a restaurant in Canggu. You queue up at the counter, place your order, and are given a number. Then you need to find your own seat, and this can be tricky because Crate Cafe is a popular place. It is worth it though because the food is great whether you get one of their toasts plates piled high with eggs or veggies or one of their eye-catching chia smoothies. I recommend The Barber, french toast topped with scrambled eggs, bacon, fried banana, and maple syrup, or Peas Please, toast topped with feta, peas, avocado, pesto, and a poached egg. Definitely try one of the Chias too for a tasty, sweet treat that you don’t have to feel bad about. The delicious food and the fun atmosphere at Crate Cafe make it one of the best restaurants in Canggu.
Yuki – Canggu
Yuki is in Batu Bolong, near the beach. It is a Japanese restaurant that serves sushi, yakitori, and a couple of vegan options. We tried the watermelon tuna roll, which was completely vegan but it could have fooled me! They also have tasty and innovative drinks. The space is very minimal and modern, mostly open-air but covered.
The Lawn – Canggu
Of the many beach clubs around Canggu, I found The Lawn to be the most accessible with plenty of value for your money. You don’t need a reservation a month in advance like you do for La Brisa, and it is right on Batu Bolong Beach. There are minimum spends required for the tables near the pool or the bean bag chairs on the beach, but there isn’t a minimum for the tables inside. The pool is a nice temperature and looks out over Batu Bolong so you can do some excellent people watching. For food, I recommend the Prosciutto pizza, served with arugula (or rocket as they call it in Bali) and piles of ricotta. The drinks are tasty but not always strong so I recommend the Mai Tai, which packs more of a punch than some of the others. Prices here are pretty expensive like most of the other beach clubs.
Black Sand Brewery – Canggu
Black Sand Brewery is the only brewery that we discovered while we were in Bali and since we are from Colorado where the craft beer game is strong, Luke and I were very excited to find a good brewery in Batu Bolong. The space is beautiful and open, adorned with plants and long communal tables. There is also an outdoor space with grass. They have deals or events almost every day of the week including two for one happy hour deals, live music, and make-your-own margarita Mondays. The food is delicious. Some of our favorite things were the birria taco, brisket taco, burgers, and the fried chicken sandwich. It is a great place to get some delicious Western food. My favorite of their beers was the Kolsch, which was light and refreshing.
Machinery – Canggu
There is no shortage of cute cafes in Canggu and Machinery is definitely one of them. They are open for breakfast and lunch. I tried the Rosti for breakfast, which was eggs with hashbrowns covered in cheese. It was delightful! The coffee is also very good here as well as the Green Detox Juice which has spinach, cucumber, and ginger.

TYGR sushi – Canggu
TYGR sushi is not the cheapest place for sushi in the Canggu area but it is really good. They offer cocktails that are overall a little sweet but good. They don’t have a large selection of sushi or rolls, primarily sticking to salmon, tuna, and hamachi (yellowtail). TYGR has more specialty rolls than regular rolls. They also offer many other small plates, like tempura, bao buns, and crispy rice. They also have bowls with rice and chicken or sushi that you can design yourself. I recommend the salmon lover’s nigiri plate, which comes with three different types of salmon nigiri, regular, aburi, and aburi with mentai sauce. The fish tastes fresh and the rolls are great. I especially like TYGR sushi for the variety of dishes you can get.
Old Man’s – Canggu
Old Man’s is a staple of Canggu and you should definitely visit regardless of whether you get food or not (but you should get food). They have a no-frills approach. You order at the counter (which is very uncommon in Canggu) from a select menu mostly made up of burgers, pizza, and a few fried appetizers. I would skip the pizza because I don’t prefer square pizza and the burgers are too good to pass up. The BB2 burger is their classic, and it is very good, but I prefer the Big Mac, which is absolutely a take on the McDonald’s burger but way better. Order a side of waffle fries and a beer and you are all set. Old Man’s also offers a few beachy cocktails but they are expensive and not the best. Old Man’s is definitely one of the best restaurants in Canggu to get a burger and fries.
Japanese Warung Umi – Canggu
Warung means local restaurant in Indonesian and you will see plenty of warungs when you are driving around Bali. If you are feeling slightly adventurous, try Japanese Warung Umi for some very cheap sushi and Japanese food. Warung Umi is a very small space with only one table, but the fish was very fresh and plentiful in the sushi rolls that we ordered despite the price. We tried the tuna and salmon nigiri, the spicy tuna roll, the spicy salmon roll, and the okonomiyaki. Everything was delicious and it was only 200,000 IDR or $13 USD.
Amy Wong Chinese Comfort Food – Canggu
This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Amy Wong Chinese Comfort Food makes delicious bao buns and traditional Chinese food dishes with rice and noodles. We tried the Carsiu chicken bao bun, the regular chicken bao bun, and two dishes. I ordered the Nasi Tim Ayam, a rice dish with ground chicken, mushroom, boiled egg, chicken stock, and sambal. Luke tried the Kwetiau Goreng, a dish with fried flat rice noodles. Everything was delicious.
The Cancala – Tibubeneng
The Cancala is a local spot that is still very approachable for foreigners, serving up Indonesian fare. The restaurant is a little way out of the busy Canggu area, but it was very close to our Villa. It is right next to a rice field and a bunch of green pastures and is perfect to visit right before the sunsets. We tried the Nasi Goreng Desa, which is fried rice with a red paste, and Chicken Satay. Everything was good and the people were very nice. I definitely recommend The Cancala if you want to try local food in a beautiful environment.
Bagels Co. – Canggu
Sometimes you just need Western food, especially when you are spending two months in Bali. Enter Bagels Co. which could easily be a bagel shop back home. They have a simple menu with plain, sesame, and everything bagels and a variety of sweet and savory toppings as well as coffee and smoothie drinks. My favorite was a sesame bagel with egg and cheese and an addition of cream cheese. Yum! They also have a very good Korean coffee that had a sweet coffee foam over milk that you mix together.
Milk & Madu – Canggu, Berawa, Ubud
This is another beautiful spot in Batu Bolong that is mostly open-air. The food and drinks are very good, making Milk & Madu one of the best restaurants in Canggu. Milk & Madu offers happy hour every day from 3-6 PM. My favorite drink was the Madu Margarita, which I am pretty sure was the best margarita I had in Bali, fresh, simple, not too sweet, and with a chile paste rim. This was my favorite spot for pizza! We tried the pumpkin pie, which was savory and vegetarian with chunks of pumpkin, arugula, ricotta, and onions. The pizza, with a chance of meatballs is also a good pizza for meat-eaters, covered in meatballs, mozzarella, and tomato.
Miel – Canggu
Miel is a great breakfast or lunch spot in Batu Bolong with a big, airy inside filled with plants. It is two floors and there is plenty of natural light. The food is breakfast and lunch, with a variety of toasts that are dense but fluffy and soft. They will prepare their toast soft, medium, or crispy based on your preference. Food-wise, I recommend avocado toast with a poached egg. The expresso drinks are very good quality. They have options for coffee beans that have been processed with natural or honey methods.
2080 Burger – Canggu, Seminyak, Uluwatu
I wasn’t sure that burgers would be as good in Bali as they are at home, but 2080 Burger was one of the few places that had a burger worthy of the name. I tried the Say Cheese Burger, which was double cheese, lettuce, and tomato. It hit the spot. Luke tried the Black Mamba, which is a brisket sandwich on a charcoal bun. There were pages of options for burgers though, so you won’t be without options. We also tried the family pack for two people which comes with two burgers, hand-cut fries, and brisket. The brisket was really tender and moist. I definitely recommend visiting 2080 Burger if you are craving western food in Bali.
XiaHouse – Canggu
XiaHouse is a Chinese restaurant just down the street from the beach. We tried the dan dan noodles and the beef noodle soup, both of which were very highly regarded in the reviews. The dan dan noodles were spicy and saucy with tasty ground pork. The beef noodle soup was rich and savory, with chunks of beef and bok choy. On another visit, we also tried the clay pot rice, similar to fried rice, but you can scrap the bottom of the clay pot to get the crispy pieces of rice that are so delicious after you stir it all together.
Pasta Bitte! – Canggu
Pasta Bitte is a great place for homemade Italian pasta. You choose your pasta type and dish and then the pasta is made to order. You can really taste the difference. If you’ve never had homemade pasta, definitely check out Pasta Bitte. I tried the Cacio e Pepe with shells and Luke tried the smoked beef carbonara with pappardelle. Both were amazing!
Fuji Sushi – Canggu, Berawa
Fuji Sushi is a great place to go for cheaper sushi rolls. They have over 70 items from 20-35k IDR, including the premium rolls. The salmon nigiri, which can be regular, seared (aburi), or seared with mentai sauce, is great. The spicy tuna roll is also pretty good although it isn’t very spicy. We also enjoyed the Tiger roll, a fried roll with spicy salmon, cream cheese, avocado, and the Mango Delight roll, which has salmon, mango, and spicy crab. The salmon mentai roll is also pretty good if you like mentai sauce. We visited several times and love that we can get rolls for such a good price compared to other sushi places in the area.
Shuang Xi Singaporean Street Food – Canggu
Shuang Xi Singaporean Street Food was definitely one of our favorite restaurants in Canggu, although it is hard to choose. It is a very cute space, decorated in red and turquoise and a cute mural depicting a group of people eating dim sum. They offer noodle bowls, where you can choose between two types of noodles, and rice plates with chicken or pork as well as small plates. The pork char siu pao is really good as well as the pork ngo hiang (which is like a pork sausage). We also tried the charsiu pork noodle bowl with curly noodles. It was so good. They also have sesame balls, which are my favorite!

PADI Club Bar and Restaurant – Canggu
PADI Club is a really beautiful restaurant with a pool that faces a large rice field. They have select cocktails, including a margarita, mojito, or caipirinha, which are buy one get one during happy hour but they have a full cocktail menu as well. They offer Indonesian food and a few Western dishes. We tried the Nasi Rendang, which is beef curry with rice, and the Kweitau noodles. PADI club is a great place to visit for the beautiful view of the rice fields and the local food. Make sure you bring your bug spray though.
Samm’s Farm Coffee – Canggu
Samm’s Farm Coffee is a great place to work but it is also a nice place to eat. The partially outdoor space is beautiful, with trees, rocks, and a koi pond. There is an inside area that is nice for working with AC and outlets. We tried the grilled chicken sandwich and the ham and cheese croissant and both were good. They serve house-made pasta for dinner but we didn’t get to try it. Samm’s Farm Coffee also produces coffee beans at their farm in Java, so this is a good place to buy beans if you want some to take home. You can purchase Luwak coffee there, which is a special type of coffee where the fruit has been eaten and digested by a mongoose. The coffee bean is pooped out, cleaned, and then roasted. This is a specialty of Bali, so don’t miss an opportunity to try it!
Another Fcking Cafe – Pererenan
Aside from the hilarious name, Another Fcking Cafe is also a great place to eat breakfast. Here we tried the hash brown omelet, which is hash brown potatoes with an omelet mixed in – a genius idea. It was delicious and quite filling. We also tried the Choco Mint smoothie bowl because it sounded different than most of the other smoothie bowls we tried in Bali. It had cocoa, kale, mint, banana, and peanut butter, topped with grapes, strawberries, coconut, and seeds. The coffee here was also great.
Cha Ching Clan – Canggu
Cha Ching Clan was a great find that we managed to try just before they closed to move locations. We really lucked out! The Mala fried chicken was crispy and spicy. We also tried the honey pork which was fried and covered in a sweet and vinegary sauce. The jade okra with mushrooms was also really good. It was nicely seasoned and a bit spicy. We ordered rice, but most of the dishes, being Sichuan, aren’t very saucy. I also ordered a drink called One in a Melon, which was served in an actual hollowed-out watermelon. Cha Ching Clan has happy hour, which includes classic cocktails only, and set menu deals. According to Instagram, Cha Ching Clan plans to re-open in a new location. When they do, you definitely need to check out this restaurant in Canggu.
Sandwichopedia – Pererenan
Sandwichopedia is a lunch spot in Canggu that I highly recommend if you enjoy sandwiches. Their menu is huge, with all different types of sandwiches available. They have deals on certain days, like Twisted Tuesday where you pay 100k IDR for a sandwich from a select menu, a drink(tea/coffee/soda), and fries or a cookie. We happened to visit on a Tuesday so we chose from the set menu and it was definitely a good deal. They also have a deal on Shirtless Saturdays, where if you are shirtless they give you 50% off. For sandwiches, we tried the chicken mentai, which was a sourdough panini-style sandwich. It was very good, but don’t order it if you don’t like mentai sauce because there is a lot of it. The Carnitas sandwich with pork and pickled jalapenos was good too. We also ordered some additional hashbrowns because we love hashbrowns patties.
Blacklist Coffee Roasters – Canggu
Blacklist Coffee Roasters is another great place to get coffee beans if you want to take some home. They have plenty of options for beans that work well for pour-over coffee and espresso. The coffee beans at Blacklist are from all over the world. They also have great food. I got my favorite breakfast sandwich in Canggu at Blacklist, the Breakfast Burger. The truffle mushrooms on toast and the crispy prosciutto with eggs were also delicious. Blacklist has a lunch, dinner, and cocktail menu as well.
LowCal Cheatery – Canggu
There are plenty of healthy eateries in Bali, and LowCal Cheatery is definitely one that serves delicious but healthy grub. The menu is broken up into categories such as low-calorie, ketogenic, and Paleolithic so you can select your meal based on the health plan you subscribe to. The menu offers plenty of variations of protein, vegetables, and starches so anyone will be able to find something they enjoy. I tried the mahi mahi with roasted mashed pumpkin and pomodoro sauce and Luke ordered the prawns with pasta. Both came with a side salad, like most of the menu options. While we were there they had some lovely acoustic live music as well. As is standard for Bali, the space was beautiful and partially open-air with leafy vines growing around the ceiling. LowCal is a great restaurant in Canggu to check out for the health-conscious and foodies alike!
Sista Dumpling – Berawa
Sista Dumpling came highly recommended from a few sources, plus anything with dumpling in the name sounds good to me, so this was high on our priority list to try. It did not disappoint. They have two whole pages of dumplings. Each order comes with 3-6 dumplings so it can be hard to narrow it down. We tried the family combo because we wanted to try a little of everything. It includes two pieces of 13 different types of dumplings, so you must be hungry when you order it. We also ordered the beetroot crystal dumpling because they were pretty and vegan! Everything was delicious. These were some of the best dumplings we’ve ever had. The family combo comes out on an adorable dumpling tower. You can also order Biang Biang noodles, Chinese hand-pulled noodles, which are our favorite thing to get in NYC. Sista Dumpling offers a happy hour deal where you buy one drink and get an oolong G&T for free. The sensational mango, a frozen mango drink with jellies, lychee, and rum, was a good choice and unique. The gin and tonic was great too! Don’t miss an opportunity to visit Sista Dumpling, one of the best restaurants in Canggu.
Neon Palms – Seminyak
Neon Palms is a cute fusion restaurant in Seminyak that we enjoyed. The restaurant is upstairs, with an inside and an outside overlooking the busy streets of Seminyak dispersed with palm trees. We tried the Korean fried chicken, which was the crispy and saucy highlight of the meal, the pork belly and rendang beef tacos, jackfruit spring rolls, French fries, and chicken dumplings. Everything was really good. The drinks were served in tiki glasses so they looked good, but we couldn’t get any since we were scuba diving the next day. Neon Palms has deals most days from 3-7 PM.
La Brisa – Canggu
The award for best beach club, restaurant, and bar in Canggu go to La Brisa, in my mind. La Brisa is just too dreamy to not take the cake. There are a variety of seating arrangements with everything from bar top tables to towering bed lounges and bean bag chairs. There are also really good beach cocktails, such as the Pina Colada or the Bali Sunset. La Brisa has two beautiful pools, one that is terraced. The food could easily be mediocre in such a setting and people would probably still visit. But the food at La Brisa is not mediocre. All the ingredients are sourced from around Indonesia and prepared with obvious care. Everything we had was great. The hummus with homemade chips was devoured quickly. The ceviche, which I was nervous to order in Bali, honestly, was delicious. The edamame and marinated olives were fresh and well-seasoned. The prawn linguine with chopped prawns was lovely. The chicken and potato pizza was also decadent in the best way. If you visit one restaurant in Canggu on this list, make it La Brisa. Make sure you reserve your seats in advance, it is a popular place for good reason.
Dessert Places You Need to Try in Canggu
I had to add these places to the list because they were so good even though I wouldn’t technically consider them restaurants. Here are a few dessert places in Canggu that you need to check out.
Dang! Cookies – Berawa
Dang! Cookies are so good, make sure you go on the first day of your trip so you can return every day after. I had this on my list but somehow we didn’t end up going until the end of our trip which meant we only got to go once! That was probably good for my budget, but I will never stop craving these cookies. They aren’t overly sweet with sugary icing like many cookie places these days. At Dang! Cookies they are focused on the rich, velvety flavors of a really good cookie. They are served soft and warm so they melt in your mouth. They had a chocolate peanut butter cookie that was to die for and their vegan cookies were delicious too.
Dreamwave Donuts – Canggu
Donuts were not a frequent sight in Bali, so when we discovered Dreamwave Donuts we were relieved. The donuts are vegan, but don’t let that deter you. They have interesting flavors like banoffee, flawlessly decorated, and they aren’t overly sweet or oily. They don’t taste like they would be vegan. It is also a cute place and in true Bali fashion, there is a pretty neon sign.
Mad Pops – Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud
If you haven’t noticed, vegan is a huge movement in Bali, and Mad Pops is on the vegan train as well with their coconut-based ice cream. There are surprisingly not many ice cream shops in Canggu and the ones I tried were not that impressive. Mad Pops was my go-to ice cream spot in Canggu for its creamy texture. Flavors range from the expected, like mint chocolate chip, to the unexpected, like lemongrass ginger.
We ate some really good food in Canggu and had so much fun doing it. Since Bali attracts so many people, the options here are endless and you can really get anything you want here. Make sure you add these restaurants in Canggu to your Bali bucket list! Have you tried any of these restaurants in Canggu? Is there anything missing from this list? Check out this list of my favorite bars in Canggu for more recommendations!
