I have been going to Cider Days since I was a little girl. I have pictures of me riding around in the train and posing next to tractors. This fall festival takes place in Lakewood, Colorado and has something for everyone!
Cider Days is first and foremost an apple festival. They have apples, apple cider, apple pie, apple pie gelato… you name it! But there is much more to this festival than meets the eye (as if that isn’t enough).
Why I Keep Coming Back:
- The yummy cider. Grab a cup of warm or cold cider for 2 dollars and wander around.
- You can bring the pup! Here’s a picture of Kona and Luke snuggling while taking a cider break (they got some weird looks).
- The petting zoo. I may be an adult but I still enjoy petting cute cows and llamas.
- You can make your own cider! Buy a ten pound bag of apples for nine bucks and a jug (for a dollar or a donation) to press your own cider in a real, old-fashioned cider mill!
- The food! Like most festivals, the food can be expensive, but these sausages were only eight bucks and worth every penny.
- So many things to keep kids entertained! I don’t have kids, but I have two nephews who have been highly entertained the last couple of years. Who can blame them? Face painting, jumping castles, shows (including Top Hogs: pigs that do tricks), pie-eating contests, train rides, donkey rides, music, and, of course, the beautiful fall weather.
- Getting an apple crisp made in a historical kitchen for only $5 dollars. You can find them in this house.
- The historical demonstrations, such as blacksmithing, knitting, and wood carving.
- The tractor pull! This is the largest tractor pull in Colorado and even though it’s not my cup of tea, it is really interesting to watch.
Okay, but what do they have for the adults?
The hard cider tasting! This is a relatively new addition that has interested a lot of people. Hard cider producers from all over, but mostly Colorado, come to Cider Days and give us unlimited tastes for only 28 bucks ($30 if purchased the day of; this includes the admission fee to the whole festival). My favorites this year were the Ginger and Mountain Elderflower from Colorado Common, the Snow Daze from Big B’s Hard Cider (this was like Christmas in a bottle and is available at Tipsy’s seasonally), the Lemon Basil from Wild Cider, and the Nona from C Squared Cider. These cider companies are all in Colorado and C Squared is located right in Denver! That’ll keep you busy for the whole year. They also have a beer garden with local brews. However, I haven’t tried this yet since I’m usually feeling the unlimited cider.
Is that enough reasons to check out Cider Days? I think so! Check out this festival the first weekend in October.
What festival do you hit up every year?
