Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year in Colorado – the temperature finally cools down a little, but it is still beautiful outside, the crunchy leaves, the fall flavors, the approaching holiday season… Here are some of the things I am most excited about!
Fall Leaves
Nothing gets me more excited for fall than the changing of the leaves! I always look forward to the annual drive Luke, Kona, and I take into the mountains (usually Guanella Pass). The crunchy noise they make is an added bonus.
Fall Beers
I bought so much pumpkin beer last year, we just finished off the last couple of cans this August. I am especially looking forward to trying the Pump Action Imperial Pumpkin Ale from 4 Noses, but I’ll try as many as I can! So far I’ve enjoyed this Eddyline Pumpkin Patch Ale from Buena Vista, Colorado.
Pumpkin Everything
I guess you can interpret from the above information that I love pumpkin. It gets me in the fall spirit!
Decorating
I have brought out my fall decorations and am preparing to decorate for Halloween on October 1st.
Sweaters and scarves and boots, oh my!
I am over my summer clothes. I am ready to pull out my boots and long sleeves! I’ve been staring at them for months and now is the time.
Pumpkin Patches
Every year we go to the pumpkin patch because it’s more fun than buying pumpkins from the store! Rock Creek Farm is our favorite so far because it’s so big. Here’s a picture of our pumpkins from two years ago.
Haunted Houses/Corn Mazes
Last year, we went to the Dead Man’s Night Maze in Thornton, which was nerve-racking for me, but not so much for my friends. I think this year we will try Anderson’s Farm’s Terror in the Corn, which involves a wagon ride to the beginning of the haunted maze.
Baking
Fall baking is my favorite kind of baking. I have so many recipes I want to try out! These are my favorite pumpkin chocolate chip cookies that I make every year.
The Cider Fest
The Cider Fest always marks the official start to the fall season for me. The first weekend in October, people in the surrounding Lakewood area come together for a festival of apples, cider, and fun activities. And they now have a Hard Cider Tasting that is amazing! Can’t wait. Below is a picture of Kona and her friend Sedona being forced to take a picture in this apple thing at the Cider Fest. They were not happy…
Movies
With the cooler weather, it’s nice to stay inside and cuddle up with the pup while watching my favorite fall movies. This means my annual Harry Potter marathon, followed by Lord of the Rings, and of course, Hocus Pocus!

Great story’s so fun to read.
Thank you!
I love fall festivals and parades, handing candy out to little kids (and big kids too!) on Halloween, watching football or going shopping while everyone else is watching football, running on a cold, brisk morning, and anticipating the first snow!
Those are good ones too! Such a great time of year!
