9 Bars in Canggu for Enjoying a Drink

Last updated on February 9th, 2024 at 11:28 pm

Are you looking for great bars in Canggu for relaxing and enjoying a drink? There is no shortage of awesome bars and clubs to check out in Canggu for any occasion. We aren’t into clubs and partying very much, but we value a high-quality drink in a relaxing atmosphere.

If you are of a similar mindset and looking for the best bars in Canggu for enjoying a drink, here are some of our favorites discovered during our two-month stay

Cloak and Dagger

Cloak and Dagger is an excellent speakeasy bar hidden above a ramen shop in Canggu. It is an intimate space with bar seating and just a few tables. The bar is themed after notorious criminals and each cocktail is named after an infamous crime. We sat at the bar, the best place to see the bartenders mixing the magic, and had such a great experience. The bartender shared that they make many shrubs, fermentations, and other in-house inventions to make their cocktails stand out. Cloak and Dagger is the perfect bar for cocktail enthusiasts. It is by appointment only, so DM them on Instagram to make a reservation.

The Shady Pig

The Shady Pig is another great speakeasy in the Canggu area. Technically in Berawa, The Shady Pig is part of the Shady family of cocktail bars with locations in Pererenan and Petitenget as well. Each speakeasy in the Shady family focuses on a different era in the mobster family of the same name during the 1900s. The Shady Pig takes cocktail enthusiasts to 1920s Birmingham, UK where the Shady family began building their crime syndicate with a focus on bootlegging and bookmaking. Eventually, the mob family was running the city of Birmingham and looking to expand into new territory, but to learn that story, you will have to visit The Shady Fox, the Pererenan location.

The Shandy Pig is located in a nondescript building with nothing but their pig snout insignia to indicate its presence. A bouncer will let you into the plain black door that leads to a small room with a hidden door. The secret door houses the dark bar with cozy alcoves and a marble bar. The drinks are intricate, using a plethora of innovative cocktail methods such as fat-washing, distillation, and fermentation. We tried a milk-washed zombie, which was completely clear and incredibly smooth (the beauty of milk-washing, iykyk), and The Chester, with cherry distillate and smoked cinnamon. They have events weekly as well. Contact them via WhatsApp for a reservation.

Segno

Segno Bali is another speakeasy bar in Batu Bolong. Enter through an unlabeled door and take the stairs to the small bar area. The leather seats at the long marble bar evoke the feeling of being in an important boardroom brimming with power and elegance (although we showed up in our beach wear). Enjoy an extensive menu with signature and classic cocktails, mocktails, wine, beer, and small plates. I tried the Southeast Sour with pineapple-infused Arak (a Balinese spirit), palm sugar, citrus, egg white, and kafir lime. It was deliciously well-balanced and I loved the addition of ingredients from Southeast Asia. They also have a collection of cigars that you may smoke at the bar, which isn’t our thing, but luckily there weren’t too many people when we visited so the smoke wasn’t bothersome. You can make a reservation via their Instagram page, but we just walked in.

Sand Bar

A very different vibe from the bars listed so far, Sand Bar is one of our favorite bars in Bali not because of the food or drinks but because of the location right on Batu Bolong beach and the live music that happens every night. The party doesn’t stop until 3 AM every day. The Sand Bar offers bean bag seats on the sand or table and bar seating on the patio above the beach.

I recommend getting there a little before sunset and grabbing one of the chairs facing the ocean. The view and people-watching at Sand Bar are unmatched. Grab a Bali Hai beer and watch the surfers ride the waves while dogs and beach-goers run around in the sand. It is magic. Sand Bar offers food and cocktails as well. Cocktails are significantly more expensive than beer, similar to everywhere in Bali. The food isn’t excellent but it will do in a pinch. Or try one of my favorite restaurants in Canggu

Terrace Brasserie

Terrace Brasserie is a French restaurant in the Batu Bolong area that offers really good classic cocktails. Many of the bars and restaurants around Canggu offer really sweet, fruity drinks that are often associated with tropical locations. These aren’t typically our favorite types of drinks. Terrace Brasserie offers cocktails for people who like a good cocktail. Luke was impressed with his Negroni and I enjoyed an Aperol Spritz. If you are also in need of a break from the sugary drinks, Terrace Brasserie might be the place to go. The food is also good, it is upscale and a bit pricier than most restaurants in Bali, but good for a special night out. They were out of quite a few food items when we visited though, which is why the drinks became the highlight. They accept reservations via their WhatsApp.

Mosto

I loved the simple but elegant atmosphere of Mosto. We stopped in for a drink because we were craving a glass of wine, which is difficult and expensive to come by in Bali. We ordered the cheapest glass, a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend, which was 95k IDR (about $6 USD) but most of the wines by the glass were around 150k IDR. For a snack, we also tried the macaroni and cheese frittatina (a ball of fried mac n’ cheese) and an anchovy crostini from the small plates menu. Both were delicious. Mosto also offers beer and cocktails alongside its extensive wine list and a decadent menu of entrees as well. It is on the pricier side, but the ambiance and quality of the food and drinks are worth it for a lovely night out in Berawa. Make reservations via their website.

One Eyed Jack

Another place where we were pleasantly surprised by the cocktail list was One Eyed Jack, a modern Japanese Izakaya Restaurant. We loved the Japanese influence on classic cocktails. I tried the Time for Tea cocktail with sencha-infused gin, sake, spiced syrup, and egg white. One Eyed Jack is a restaurant with a full menu, but we tried just a few of their small plates with our drinks. The yakitori pork belly with yuzu and barbeque sauce was to die for and the chicken tsukune bao sliders were delicious. We enjoyed everything that we tried within the lovely setting of a Japanese Izakaya. Reservations can be made on their website.

Como Beach Club

Como Beach Club is a beautiful place to grab a drink and enjoy the pool or lounge on a daybed. Just off the beach, Como feels secluded due to the wall of plants and the fact that it is north of Batu Bolong. Como offers classic cocktails, signature cocktails, mocktails, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks.

Daybeds have a minimum spend of 500K, which is not hard to meet with a few cocktails of about 160K each. The daybeds are first come, first serve but a general reservation is required unless you are staying at the hotel. We arrived around 5 PM, which was a little late because the pool closed at 7 PM. However, the daybeds and the pool were pretty much empty.

We enjoyed several drinks, including a perfect pina colada, and the sunset from the pool. Como Beach Club is the perfect locale to enjoy a beverage, however, I don’t recommend the food after Luke got sick from eating their steak (don’t eat steak in Bali, and if you do, make sure it is well done). Other than that blemish, we had a lovely experience.

Black Sand Brewery

I would be remiss to not mention Black Sand Brewery on this list of our favorite bars in Canggu, even though it is also on my list of favorite restaurants. The food is excellent too, but the reason we originally visited Black Sand Brewery was for the drinks. It is the only brewery that we encountered during our stay in Canggu. They make a variety of beers, only one of which is an IPA, but they also serve cocktails. The brewery is decorated with greenery in the partially covered outdoor space. They have a full food menu and offer almost daily deals. Our favorite was make-your-own-maragita Mondays. You can make a reservation on their website but we always just walked in.
