I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from Chicago, but after the weekend I spent there I am definitely planning to return soon! Want to know what made me fall in love with this city?
The highlights of my weekend were:
- The donuts and pastries. I’m stilling dreaming about this cinnamon sugar pretzel from Stan’s Donuts.
- The view of the city from the Museum Campus.
- The bean. Such an amazing work of art. I love how the buildings bend in towards each other in the reflection.
- Deep Dish Pizza! A layer of large chucks of sausage, lots of cheese, topped with pepperoni. Need I say more?
- The views from the Nichols Bridgeway and, more importantly, these beautiful fall colors.
- The Art Institute! I also visited the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Muesum while I was there, but the Art Institute was my favorite. Pictured below is Paris Street; Rainy Day, one of the most impressive paintings.
- Chicago Dogs! I had one at Devil Dawgs and it was amazing.
- The Chicago City Pass which makes it easy and cheap to get skip the line passes at all the best attractions! It includes Sky Deck Chicago, the Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, 360 Chicago or the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Art Institute or the Adler Planetarium. All of these activities for only $100. It was a huge time saver!
- The Ledge at Skydeck Chicago. There are some awesome photo opportunities here!
- The Drifter, a speakeasy located in a speakeasy space from the Prohibition. They have a deck of rotating tarot cards as a menu, great snacks and drinks, and preformances on the hour.
- The Slurping Turtle, a ramen shop located in the River North District. They have an amazing spicy pork ramen bowl and great pork steamed buns. Plus the atmosphere is great, with cubby-hole booths upstairs and a community table downstairs.
- The architecture. Sky scrapers next to beautiful old buildings and brick apartments with parks winding through them.
- The street art! It’s everywhere!
